Group Hike // Tanawha trail Via Beacon Heights, NC 9.7.19

Start off Suicide Prevention Month right with a beautiful hike on one of best trails in the High Country! This 5 mile round-trip hike along the Tanawha Trail will start and end at the breathtaking Beacon Heights bald and lead us through late summer’s gorgeous flora and fauna. Join us Saturday, September 7th from 2:00-4:30 PM. Snacks will be provided!

WHAT TO BRING: Please bring your own water bottle and wear comfortable hiking clothes and footwear with a good grip.

We are expanding onto college campuses!! OYM is very excited to announce that we will be holding an interest meeting on Sunday, September 15th from 6:00-7:00 PM on the Sanford Mall! Founder & Executive Director, Kat Dolan, will be talking to students who are interested in being a part of the very FIRST Out of Your Mind college club and asking for ten students to sign up to help establish the club! If you or someone you know would be interested in being apart of this exciting, please come to Sanford Mall Sunday, September 15th! We can’t wait to start this journey with you and help prevent social isolation and suicide right here in Boone!

Unlocking your Syllables rhythm with KAT DOLAN // Foggy pine books Boone, NC 9.16.19

Join us Monday, August 16th from 5:30-7:00 PM for ‘Unlocking Your Syllables Rhythm’, a writing workshop lead by local performance poet & OYM Founder, Kat Dolan. Kat will be illustrating how music can provide and maintain a unique rhythm and feel when writing, followed by a writing prompt. All writers are welcome, beginners are adored!

We love Open Mic so much we’ve decided to host not one, but TWO Open Mics each month! This Spalted Word Open Mic is just down the mountain in Winston-Salem, NC and takes place every 3rd Thursday of the month! Join us at Sunnyside Mercantile on Trade Street in downtown Winston-Salem from 7:00-9:00 PM for a wonderful open mic event with a different feature performer each month. Show up an hour early at 6:00PM for a FREE creative writing workshop with Sean Townsend, the curator of Daybreak writing workshop!

Every Thursday evening from 6:00-7:00 PM, Sean Townsend, Language Artist and OYM’s Creative Director, leads a writing workshop at Sunnyside Mercantile in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. Sean focuses his craft in The Rhyme Spectrum Theory, a theory he developed himself. while also leading workshops on a wide range of topics, including poetic form and performance.

Remembering Mental Opportunity Yoga Class with Noelle Austin // Avery Community Yoga Banner Elk, NC 9.26.19

This yoga class honoring Suicide Prevention month will be an emotionally moving experience. Noelle Austin, owner of Avery Community Yoga, will be leading us in a mindful practice dedicated to the loved ones we have lost to suicide. Join us Thursday, September 26th from 7:00-8:30 PM as we remember loved ones and take the time to honor their spirits by taking the time to care for our mental health.

WHAT TO BRING: Please bring your own water bottle and wear comfortable yoga attire. If possible, please bring your own yoga mat.

Passion Talk with MakeUp Artist & Drag Queen, Andrew Donohue // The Greenhouse Boone, NC 9.29.19

We are incredibly excited to be collaborating with the talented Asheville-based makeup artist & drag queen, Andrew Donohue. Andrew will be speaking about how he found his passion while giving make-overs to volunteers at the event! Join us Sunday, September 29th from 4:00-6:00 PM for this very special event!
