Group hike // Boone Fork Trail Blowing Rock, NC 6.15.19

A perfect summer trail, the Boone Fork never fails to impress this time of year! A gradual uphill, down hill start finishes with a incredible stroll along the water, perfect for river rock gazing. Join us Saturday, June 15th at 4:00 PM by the bathrooms in the Boone Fork Trail parking lot just along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

WHAT TO BRING: water! Comfortable shoes & clothes and a friend!

Open Mic // Spalted Word, Winston-Salem NC 6.20.19

We love Open Mic so much we’ve decided to host not one, but TWO Open Mics each month! This Spalted Word Open Mic is just down the mountain in Winston-Salem, NC and takes place every 3rd Thursday of the month! Join us at Sunnyside Mercantile on Trade Street in downtown Winston-Salem from 7:00-9:00 PM for a wonderful open mic event with a different feature performer each month. Show up an hour early at 6:00PM for a FREE creative writing workshop with Sean Townsend, the curator of Daybreak writing workshop!

VOLUNTEERING // F.A.R.M. CAFE BOONE, NC 6.24.2019

We are volunteering with our friends at F.A.R.M. Cafe on King Street in Boone, NC this month for an afternoon of community love! Join us Tuesday, June 24th between 10:30 AM-3:00 PM! F.A.R.M. Cafe serves up one of the absolute best lunches in Boone, sourcing many of their ingredients from local farmers. We cannot wait to serve this yummy food to our community!

Unable to volunteer? All good! Stop by and see us for a delicious lunch and a chance to snag some OYM merch! Tees, tanks, sweatshirts, v-necks and raglan tees available!

WHERE TO MEET: F.A.R.M. Cafe on King Street between the hours of 10:30-3:00 PM.

HOW TO SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER: 1-2 hour shifts are available. If you are able to volunteer with us, please click here to let us know what times you are available!

Evening Potluck & Live Music! // Valle Crucis Community Park, Valle Crucis NC 6.28.19

There is nothing better than music here in the mountains! Join us Friday, June 28th at 6:30-9:00 PM as we spend the evening sharing a delicious potluck and listening to the Blues tunes of Roots & Dore with the grace of the Valle Crucis hollar as our evening landscape. WHAT TO BRING: A potluck dish to share! Please bring your own plate & drinking cup to reduce waste!! Silverware and blankets to sit on will be provided! BYO Chair if you would like!

Daybreak Writing Workshop with Sean Townsend // Winston-Salem, NC

*EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT!*

Every Thursday evening from 6:00-7:00 PM, Sean Townsend, Language Artist and OYM’s Creative Director, leads a writing workshop at Sunnyside Mercantile in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. Sean focuses his craft in The Rhyme Spectrum Theory, a theory he developed himself. while also leading workshops on a wide range of topics, including poetic form and performance.
